'Tis The Season!

Sheila

Is it too soon to start getting excited about all of the fun and wonderful events that are coming up for the Holidays? As the parent of a wee one, I think not! (and even as a perpetual kid myself, I love the colourful lights and music of this season).

To help you plan some activities, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite events around Lake Simcoe to jump-start the Festive Season:

Saturday November 17th kicks off the season for me with the Keswick Santa Claus Parade starting at 1:30pm. The Jennifer Jones Team will be in the Parade so don’t forget to wave and say hi as we make our way along the Parade route.

The Barrie Santa Claus Parade also takes place on Saturday November 17th although this one is an evening Parade and starts at 5pm. If you have never been to an evening parade you really need to experience it; there is something so magical about the twinkling lights in the evening darkness.

If you’re in Orillia and even if you’re not, you will want to come out and enjoy the Orillia Santa Claus Parade considered “one of the largest parades North of Toronto” on Sunday November 18th beginning at 1pm.

The Sutton Santa Claus Parade of Lights is also an evening parade and this one holds a special place in my heart as it was the first evening parade I had experienced after moving up to Jackson’s Point from Toronto. You do not want to miss this one on Saturday December 1st beginning at 5pm in Jackson’s Point. You can also say hi and wave to The Jennifer Jones Team as we wind our way through Jackson’s Point and Sutton.

On Sunday November 25th, in Orillia, The Mariposa Market is hosting its annual Big Christmas Open House. Guests can enjoy presents for the kids, live entertainment, free hot chocolate, cookies and cake, and a giant yule log.

First Light at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons is one of the prettiest family friendly events that I feel everyone should experience at least once: Dress warm for this event as a great deal of it is outdoors set against a backdrop of approximately 5000 candles.

Stay warm and Enjoy!
